Who are we?

The Take Steps for Kids 5K and 1 Mile is an annual event hosted by a group of Washington University students for which all proceeds are donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. We are the largest student-run race in Missouri. At our event, we aim to create a professionally run, exciting race experience as well as a fun-filled family atmosphere that can be enjoyed by BBBS matches, Wash. U. students, and members of the greater St. Louis community.

The Take Steps for Kids Running Project is the group that hosts and organizes this event. We are a Washington University student group with the goal of sharing our passion for running with Wash. U. and the larger community. We have developed a strong partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri that includes not only our annual flagship run but also monthly field days with BBBS matches held at Washington University’s South Campus.

When our race began in 2009, we raised $1,250, and it has grown every year since. Over the past nine years, we have donated around $80,000 to Big Brothers and Big Sisters, including $11,692 last year. We could not have done this without our generous sponsors and registrants.
